A round-up of posts, resources and articles from around the web. From a monster list of webmaster blogs for and by women to a satirical warning about misusing social media to a David and Goliath story that will make your blood boil, find out what Jen is reading today and why.
- 100 Awesome Webmaster Blogs by and for Women Jimmy Atkinson over at the Web Hosting Database has put together a fantastic list of Search, Marketing, Design, Social Media and Business blogs written by women and/or focused on women. There are some great sites on the list, including several I hadn"t previously heard of. If you"re looking to add to your feed reader, here"s a great starting point.
- Need some more lessons in what not to do when it comes time to putting together a viral pitch for your business? How about you DON"T send fake death threats? I"m honestly a little bothered at the trend toward "made up news" and "fake scares" for viral campaigns. Don"t we already have enough negativity raining down on us? Do you really want your business associated with even more?
- A few years back, I ran into a little legal problem when a great big company with deep pockets went after me for something they didn"t like on my hobby blog. That story had a happy ending, but it still made me wonder what would happen when a company with deep pockets decided to REALLY go after a small business blogger. Looks like we might find out. If you aren"t familiar with the case of Vlad Zablotskyy and ePerks, you should check it out. How this case goes could have a huge impact on small business, blogging and free speech online.
- This video is far from new, but after having some discussions earlier today about the true value of social media and what PR firms and marketing agencies are going to have to do to grasp it, it seemed appropriate. Let it serve as a word of warning to anyone who finds themselves sucked into social media or anyone looking to get involved with social media...DON"T be a social media douche bag.
- Feeling a little down in the dumps about your lack of budget when it comes to marketing online? No worries! Mike Moran has a great post over at Small Business Answers today exploring how Web Marketing Favors Small Businesses. My favorite point from his post? "In fact, the more money you want to put behind an idea, the harder it will be to decide which idea is the right one. You"ll end up with the safest idea rather than the best one."
