Fliptrack, syncing your images to music

fliptracklogo.bmpFliptrack gives you an easy way to build a slide-show of images that sync to the tempo of music — in the form of a videos.

Fliptrack, of Mountain View, Calif., has been in test mode for several months, but officially launches tomorrow — with $1.525 million in venture financing from Silicon Valley firm Mohr Davidow Ventures.

fliptrackvideo2.bmpFliptrack is different from other slide show companies because it lets you place your images in a dashboard that syncs them automatically with the tempo of the song you choose. The process first lets you choose a track (one of the 4,000 it has licensed). You then upload images from your computer or elsewhere, and its software lets you pick where in the song they’ll appear. Click on image here, which takes you to a demo (not the prettiest) of how it works.

Web 2.0 companies are ablaze with user contests, and Fliptrack is no different. Contests mobilize users. Fliptrack announces tomorrow that the maker of the best Fliptrack slide-show to the song of “The Sound of Your Voice,” from Barenaked Ladies will get $750.

The editing tools make Fliptrack less like more pure-play slide-show competitors, such as RockYou or Slide, and more like music slide-show site One True Media, though that company doesn’t have the syncing features of Fliptrack.

With Fliptrack’s video mashup tools, you can also add text, effects and transitions. You can share the videos at other sites.

Fliptrack’s music is somewhat limited, with “more than 350″ licensed songs from EMI, Spirit Music Group and Music Sales. However, it has licensed thousands of more songs from independent labels such as Tommyboy Records, Ministry of Sound, V2 Records, Nettwerk and some 50 “indie” bands.
