12年后,Glaser还在为微软的垄断而苦苦拼争的时候,更年轻的YouTube们却早已远远地把Real甩在身后。论技术、论声望、论历史、论公司实力,怎么都轮不到YouTube,但当互联网视频时代真的呼啸而来的时候,Real又在哪里呢?当Real忿忿不平地抱怨微软垄断的时候,连Google都无法阻挡YouTube的火爆。
在Real一边跟微软打着官司,一边努力地向娱乐业抛送媚眼的时候,YouTube只做了一件事——把平台开放给用户。Real的节目向导还是娱乐明星阵地,YouTube早就让普通人的创意红遍网络。做了12年的RealNetworks市值只有12.5亿美元,YouTube做了一年就卖了16.5亿美元,貌似不公平,但却很说明问题。
时代在变,死抱着传统内容,轻视网民创造力的人,就像起大早赶晚集的Real,注定被这个时代的网民慢慢忘记。我看到仍有很多公司花大价钱去购买传统的娱乐内容,去跟传统内容提供商进行不平等的合作,我仿佛看到,更多的Real正在未老先衰。
Real错失了网民自己的视频时代,不免令人扼腕,但Real的Web 1.0思维几乎注定让它与这个时代无缘。
